The purpose and the scientific tasks in Component 1 of the Program are related to the study of the effect of climate change on country’s priority agricultural ecosystems and, accordingly, their response to these changes (plants, animals, microorganisms, etc.). Models will be developed for crops, varieties and hybrids with the best environmental adaptability and the best adaptation to climate change, as well as their use as a food base for animal husbandry. The impact of agricultural practices and agri-environmental factors on priority cropping systems will be examined as well as the impact on biodiversity and ecosystems and services they provide.
The component will generate new knowledge and based on it will offer flexible models and technological solutions for the management of production agro-systems, including local genetic resources and raw materials, climate-resistant crops, varieties and hybrids and animal breeds, and will evaluate the potential of these systems to provide a sustainable bio-resource base at regional and national level.
