The purpose and scientific objectives of Component 2 of the Programme are related to the study of innovative and high-tech approaches to the management of country-specific biological agro-ecosystems, including crops, varieties and hybrids and Decision Support System for diseases and pests therein, the testing and implementation of new biological products for use in agriculture for the production of safe and harmless food raw materials, as well as the impact on the quality of organic production.
Models will be developed for the management of the plant health of crops, varieties and hybrids, as well as for the overall eco-functional intensification of the farms.
The component will generate new knowledge and, on this basis, will offer flexible management models for production biological agro-ecosystems, including local genetic resources and raw materials, and will evaluate the potential of these systems to offer quality and standardised raw materials for the processing industry. The possibilities and available technologies for processing and recycling will be explored and analysed, as well as offering modern innovative technological solutions for the country’s priority bio-resources. Models will be developed for the renewal and conversion of these bio-resources and waste into value-added products such as food, feed, bio-based products such as bioenergy or bio-pharmacy.
The activities under Component 2 of the Program are organized into the following Thematic Work Packages (WPs):
