The purpose and scientific objectives of Component 4 of the Programme are related to the study of the importance of the bio-economy for regional development, agro-food chains and quality of life.
For the first time in the country, the typology and regional profiles of the bio-economy will be mapped at the regional level. Successful regional innovation systems and clusters related to producers, processors and users of bio-based resources will be identified. On this basis, a pilot model for the Regional Ecosystem for Bio-economy will be developed, based on a common regional vision and priorities for the bio-economy, and also on the basis of a new generation of value-added chains based on the bio-economy and adapted to priority industrial areas, coordination at the level of administration, scientific institutions, industry and agri-food sector. The model will be the basis for the elaborated and proposed by the Component Action Plan for the promotion of “Regional ecosystems for bio-economy”. The Plan will address the need for knowledge and technological expertise in the field of bio-economy and its priority sectors in Bulgaria.
